Preparing to Arrive in Adelaide
From the moment your student visa is granted to your first day on campus, we’re here to help ensure your arrival in Adelaide is as smooth and informed as possible. This guide will assist you with everything from accommodation to customs, airport pickups, and orientation.

Accommodation in Adelaide
Adelaide is one of Australia’s most affordable and student-friendly cities. NDI is centrally located in the heart of the city, making it convenient to access transport, amenities, and accommodation.
Types of Accommodation

Residential Colleges | Community-focused. Meals, academic & pastoral support included. |
Managed Housing | Designed for students. Fully furnished with rental agreements and support. |
Private Rentals | Maximum independence. Rent a house/apartment alone or with housemates. Utilities and furniture usually not included. |
Airport Arrival and Pickups
Adelaide Airport (ADL) is about 20 minutes from the city centre.
Taxis are available outside the terminal. Look for the designated taxi zone to the left as you exit the terminal.
To make your transition easier, NDI offers free airport pickup for new international students who book at least 7 days in advance. We’ll greet you at the airport and help with initial transport and settling in.
Customs, Quarantine & Travel Tips
Australia has strict quarantine laws. You must declare any food, plant, or animal products. Heavy penalties apply for failure to declare.
Travel Checklist:
Economy airfare: approx. AUD $1,200–$2,000
Cash: Carry AUD $500 for arrival expenses. If carrying over AUD $10,000, declare it to Customs.
Traveller’s cheques/bank drafts in your name (recommended: AUD $2,000–$3,000)
Quality luggage, clearly labelled
Photocopies of all key documents (passport, visa, eCoE, insurance, academic documents, return tickets)
Medical checkups: complete dental, optical, and GP visits before travel
Prescribed medications (with a valid prescription and original packaging)
Passport-sized photos (bring several)
DO NOT bring:
Items for others without knowing the contents
Food, herbs, seeds, meat, or dairy products unless declared

Orientation Program
The NDI Orientation Program is compulsory for all new international students. It helps you:
Understand your course structure and study requirements
Register for student ID and facilities
Learn about Australian culture, student safety, and legal rights
Meet fellow students and get to know the campus
